- Cleaning spotted linoleum caused by condensation |
Dear Shell, We really enjoy your show on Saturday mornings!! In our bathroom we have linoleum; mostly white with small green squares. Lately we've noticed brown spots appearing. They start as a small dot. The largest one is about an inch in diameter and nothing seems to take them off. Any suggestions as to what these may be? Thanks, Leslie Ann Dear Leslie Ann, The staining is caused by condensation or moisture under the vinyl. The nails used to hold down the underlay are not galvanized causing rusting to take place. The brown spots are the rust wicking up through the vinyl surface. Unfortunately there is no cure! When you decide to replace the floor, leave the existing vinyl and apply floor-leveling compound to fill any pattern on the vinyl surface. Remove the toilet bowl and lay new flooring over the old using an all-purpose floor adhesive. It's just that easy. Article courtesy of: Shell Busey |
