- Building a basement partition

Basement Partitions that are not load bearing, are not required to be built from construction grade lumber. A good alternative is kiln dried economy studs because they minimize twist and warp...and save you money!

It is easier to cut and assemble your partitions on the floor in managable sections that you can lift into place.

Here's a tip: Build your partition three (3) inches shorter than the finished height of the wall. Set the partition in place and fit short pieces of your framing lumber between the concrete floor and bottom plate and the floor joist above and top plate. This will make up the three (3) inch shortfall.
