- Garage concrete floor repair

Dear Shell,

Great show Shell. I have 3 questions to ask you about concrete.

1. My garage floor is spalling where my car sits in the garage. I did copy down your procedure to repair this from a previous show but I misplaced it, Could you forward that to me again.

2. The concrete floor where the garage door comes down is all cracked and broken. I did repair it once before with finishing concrete but I ended up with the same result. This part of the concrete floor is only 4 inches deep with the grade beam underneath it. There seems to be considerable widening of cracks as soon as winter arrives. What should I do?

3. I have a sidewalk leading to the house, running parallel to the garage. It is covered by an overhang. At the first step up to this sidewalk it is cracked about 6 inches from the edge. Is there some product I can use to prevent this crack from further deteriorating my sidewalk?

Thanks, Dennis

Dear Dennis,

Acid wash the floor using a mixture of muriatic acid 1/3 to 2/3 water and allow to dry. Mix Weldbond 5 parts water to 1 part Weldbond; pour onto slab and spread with a roller. Apply a trowel coat of bonded topping mix made by Target or Sakrete. Keep the area moist with a light spray of the hose every hour for eight hours. After one week apply a solvent based sealer. Repair the cracks with a polyurethane caulking. If the cracks are open, more than ¼” pack with poly foam dowel before caulking with the polyurethane. Sprinkle sand on top of the curing caulking.

It's Just That Easy.
