- Preventing moisture from damaging linoleum

Dear Shell,

My white linoleum has yellowed under the rubberized bathroom mats. Is there any way to remove this from the lino? I asked at the lino store and they said it was from dampness, which I don't agree with. I think it's from lack of air to the lino. Who is right? I believe that all lino companies should warn people about putting these mats over linoleum.

Thanks, Yvonne

Dear Yvonne,

Unfortunately the dealer is right, but how does it get wet? When scrubbing floors always leave the mat off the floor for at least 1 hour. This allows the vinyl floor to dry thoroughly before replacing the mat. My recommendation is to use jute back carpet not foam backed.

It's just that easy.
