- Preparing fir siding for finishing |
Dear Shell, We are putting on fir siding on a house. We do not want to change the colour of the wood, all we want to do is seal the wood for the longest possible time. Does it make sense to use something like Thompson water seal rather then a stain? The cost is cheaper and the year to year maintenance should be less. We do not want to refinish the wood every year, we want to minimize the upkeep. Is there a better product then Thompson water seal? Thanks, Mike Dear Mike, Before any finish is applied to fir you must wash it with Mill Glaze Away by Bio Wash and rinse well. Rather than just a water sealer it is best to use a penetrating wood protector such as Super Natural. This is a two-part system A & B call 1-800-858-5011 for info on both products and availability near you. It's just that easy. Article courtesy of: Shell Busey |
