- Repairing and refinishing a wood window damaged by moisture |
Dear Shell, We have a stained and lacquered wood casement window in our bathroom. Because of the excess moisture, it seems that there is almost mildew in the worn finish. What is the best way to fix this and refinish? I believe part of the problem is that the builders do not stain and lacquer the hidden edges of the window frame - is this so? Thanks, Cindy Dear Cindy, You are not controlling the moisture level in your bathroom (with a dehumidistat). Lacquer is not the best finish to use in your bathroom or any damp area. Lightly sand the area and wash with my Shell Busey's Home Cleaning Formula, rinsing well. Apply Flecto Varathane Diamond stain to match followed by a Flecto Diamond clear finish. It's just that easy.
