- Can I add soundproofing qualities with my new hardwood floor? |
Dear Shell, I am remodeling and am putting a floating hardwood floor down on the main floor of the home. I have a suite in the basement and I want to reduce noise and also have a good underlay for the floating floor. What do you recommend? What do you think about cork as an underlay? What other options do I have? The foam underlay they sell with the floating floor does not look like it reduces sound... is this correct? Thanks for your help. Dwayne Dear Dwayne, Floating floors applied over cork has much better sound absorption than foam underlay. In addition consider insulating the joist cavity below with sound barrier fibreglass batts called Quiet Zone. It's just that easy. Article courtesy of: Shell Busey |
