- Replacing and updating your windows<

Dear Shell,

We recently bought an old home that still has the original drafty windows. In the process of researching replacement windows I found a site claiming that a properly fitted and caulked window with a good storm window would work as well or better than these new replacement windows. They recommended repairing the old window instead of getting new ones. Is this true?

Thanks, Ward

Dear Ward,

Drafty windows can be made energy efficient by adding inside or outside storm windows. By adding storms you will achieve the same R-value as ½ ” Insul glass. But there is very efficient glass now available in new window sash and frames that will achieve an R-value of R 4.17, double that of ½ ” Insul glass. Ask for Low E squared argon gas filled Smart Glass.

It's just that easy.
