- Applying a vapour barrier to the framing on the outside walls |
Dear Shell, I am finishing my below grade basement and I am uncertain as to how to properly apply the vapour barrier to the framing on the outside walls. Should the vapour barrier be attached to the existing vapour barrier at the top of the ceiling and then be applied to the interior side of the framing, and should it wrap under the bottom of the framing also? If so, how far up the concrete wall should it go? Thanks, David Dear David, Apply a bead of acoustical caulking on a chalk line snapped on the concrete wall 6” grade level outside. Apply 6 mil poly onto the acoustical caulking rolling it down the wall and up in front of insulation to the top of the wall out onto the ceiling 12” and tape to ceiling vapour barrier. Don't forget the insulation between the joists on top of the wall up against the rim joist sealed with 6mil poly and acoustical caulking. It's just that easy. Article courtesy of: Shell Busey |
