- Water damage around the shower |
Dear Shell, I noticed that I have water seeping in to the bottom corner of my wall by the shower stall. It must have been doing this for awhile as the wall is eroding and soft and wet. How do I fix the wall damage? Also, there is wetness on the outside of the shower stall over the caulking. Do I need to recaulk the entire shower base on the inside and outside to get rid of this problem? Thanks, Marisa Dear Marisa, You did not indicate if there was ceramic tile installed on the wall, so I will assume there is. Remove all the damaged wet area. Normally this will require approximately to 4 rows of tile and backing board. Allow to dry out (this may take a week or so). Replace using cement board sealed with Ceramica (for info call 604-850-1687). Replace tile if you have matching if not you can use an accent colour to make it look great. Recaulk with bathtub silicone and seal grout lines with solvent-based sealer. It's just that easy. Article courtesy of: Shell Busey |
